The Engagement Team is a service delivered by Barod and WCADA. The Engagement Team offer a unique assertive outreach approach as part of the wider Newid service provision. Barod and WCADA fully understand, that sometimes people find it difficult to access services and attend appointments, this is where our Engagement Service can help.

The Engagement Team will work with people in a variety of settings, including their home to ensure maximum engagement is achieved.

Along with brief interventions and harm reduction advice, the Engagement Team will also assess peoples needs to ensure those who wish to access more formal treatment get the right support at the right time by improving accessibility.

The Community Drug and Alcohol Team (CDAT) provide a complex needs service for people experiencing problematic substance misuse requiring medical interventions. The Community Drug and Alcohol Team offer specialist clinical services, ensuring a harm reduction approach is taken and where appropriate, will work with people to achieve abstinence.

The Community Drugs and Alcohol Team, deliver Tier 3 based services which include specialist medical interventions, such as, opiate substitute therapy. The Community Drugs and Alcohol Team also deliver evidenced based psychosocial therapies to compliment medical interventions. During your time with the Community Drugs and Alcohol Team you will be supported by highly experienced professionals who will develop a care plan based on your goals and needs.

PSALT (pronounced P-SALT) is Newid’s Primary Care, low threshold medical prescribing service. The term low threshold simply means there are no complex physical health or mental health needs that would need further specialist support via our CDAT team.  PSALT delivers high quality care to people who require opiate substitute therapy supported by highly experienced key workers within the community.

 

Adferiad Recovery provides support and interventions for those affected across Swansea and Neath Port Talbot. Adferiad has designated services for children and young people, adults, older people and family and carers. Adferiad provide the Minnesota 12-Step Abstinence treatment programme and Harm Reduction services, including needle and syringe programmes, outreach support, diversionary activities and counselling. Adferiad’s approach is to inspire change and support people to achieve their potential whichever recovery path people choose.

Barod provides high quality substance misuse services to help improve peoples wellbeing who are affected by drugs and alcohol. Barod will assist you, in making informed decisions about your own care and support by promoting harm reduction and health promotion strategies. You will be given information on what is available at Barod and if needed signposted to other services in Western Bay to help create the best support package for you.

Dyfodol provide a drug and alcohol service for those involved with the justice system across much of South Wales. They work in the prisons, policy custody suites, courts and in the community to help people who struggle with alcohol and drugs and for whom there is a link with substances and offending behaviour. They provide clinical (medical) treatment and caseworkers who help people to stabilise, change and build resilience, while satisfying the requirements of the justice system, helping people to stop offending and develop a healthy and positive lifestyle.

The Dyfodol justice service is jointly funded by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service and works alongside the range of Newid services to help people access the most suitable source of help and the right time.

Dyfodol also deliver the Rapid Access Prescribing Service (RAPS) within the Newid partnership. This is an integral part of Newid, ensuring our most vulnerable people are provided with specialist interventions and holistic support.  RAPS is an assertive outreach service that aims to help those who are most in need, providing non-judgemental, flexible and dynamic engagement opportunities so that people stand the best chance of getting into treatment and achieving the best possible outcomes. RAPS provides opportunities for clinical (medical) treatment as well as one to one support to promote safety and stability and to encourage and support change.

Platform deliver substance misuse counselling within the Newid partnership. The substance misuse counselling service is designed to help people get more of an insight into the substance misuse problems they may be struggling with. All counselling takes place within a safe, non-judgemental and non-discriminatory environment. Platform can provide guidance and support to those who want to cut down their substance use or stop altogether. To access the counselling service in Western Bay please get in touch with Newid today.
Needle and Syringe Programmes (NSP’s) formally known as needle exchanges are a vital harm reduction service that aims to reduce the harms and risky behaviours associated with injecting drugs. The programme provides clean and sterile injecting equipment, Blood Borne Virus (BBV) screening and support into more treatment services if requested.

You can also obtain Naloxone kits in Needle and Syringe Programmes. Naloxone is the life saving medication given when someone has had an overdose, from opiate based drugs such as, heroin. Naloxone is pivotal to reduce drug related deaths in the region something that remains a high priority in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot.
